How many of you have a house with a two car garage? How many of you have the ability to go out right now and put two cars in that garage? How about putting one car in the two garage?
Many of us find that our garages, or other storage areas, seem to be problem areas that house our excessive junk. The larger the garage or the storage area, the more junk we can accumulate. An inventory of the garage may find trash cans, boxes of stuff, lawn mowers, lawn edger's, tools, shovels, brooms, unopened boxes of garage organization shelf's, and almost anything else you can think of. The idea of putting our cars in the garage is very appealing, but seems to be hard to attain. Even if we get to cleaning it up sometimes we find something else we can put in the newly created space temporarily, which then becomes semi-permanent, and the car sits in the driveway.
For some reason, the idea of this big open area, with such a large remote controlled door, just seems to be such a tempting place to hide all of our disorganization from the outside world. After all, how many people actually go into your garage, unless they are invited to go there. Not very many. So if we are cleaning the house, the garage offers us this great place to temporarily park our extra items out of sight and out of mind. Never intending to leave them there long, we seem to be able to walk by them every time we go through the garage, until we again find a garage stuffed with stuff.
If you live in areas up North, or other areas subject to inclement weather, we remember the mornings scraping frost or snow off the car, and long for the ability to just start our cars and open the garage door and drive out. So about this time every year, we make plans to get our garages organized, so we don't have to deal with the winter issues as much. Still, some of us struggle with ever getting this accomplished, so our cars sit outside all winter long, while our lawn mowers, boxes and other junk stay dry in the comfort of our two car garage.
So, if you are having trouble with this, and think about it now in September or October, it would be a great time to take the few hours it would take you to clean out a spot for at least one of your cars in the two garage. You will be glad you did it, and it may save you lots of headaches in the months to come. If not, make sure your car is winterized well, and the battery is in good shape, and stock up on window scrapers, deicer sprays and get up early, so you can leave the car running in the driveway for ten minutes warming up and thawing out the covered windows.
Good luck on your fall project.
Thanks and talk to you next month.
