There are almost endless possibilities depending on the individual’s needs
and desires. By going over suggestions from the individual's counselor, and their
own background, a “contract” of action will be agreed upon between the client and
the coach. Since the coach is not a professionally licensed counselor there are
some things that the Coach cannot discuss with the individual such as use of
medications and some other areas that are best addressed by your counselor.
The coach’s focus will be to provide hands on structure, accountability,
monitoring, follow-up and support using positive and empathetic techniques.
Since the coach will often go to the residence, if asked, to help out with
certain areas of concern, the coach offers both the individual and the
professional counselor an additional tool to improve the client’s quality of
life. When I was a child and experiencing ADD I was always considered bright
and intelligent but always accused of being “lazy” or of “not applying myself”
in school. I struggled in many areas that others seemed to have little trouble
in. At the same time if something interested me I had no difficulty with it. I
remember I memorized almost every commercial, jingle or television show theme
song.
I have always been creative and have an ability to think of things that others
may not have of thought of. I think that almost every person I have dealt with
that has been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD has been given a gift or talent that they
would not want to lose.
My job as a coach is to help you find that gift if you have not already done so.
To identify
Your other strengths and try my hardest to incorporate your strengths to improve
