The best time to find out if you have a slab leak is when there is a sudden increase in humidity in the area. The humidity increases because of the rain or dew that collects on the ground and then evaporates into the air. The walls become damp and the surface tension of the concrete foundation will begin to pull away from the slab. When this happens you must repair the slab leak to keep the foundation structurally sound. This is why it is so important to fix any and all leaks before they worsen.

The most common way to detect a slab leak is through the water supply line that comes into the house. If you notice black specks on the water main leading into your home, it is a sign that there is a leak in your concrete foundation. You should contact a foundation contractor as soon as possible and get this repaired before it becomes worse. Black specks on your water lines do not necessarily mean you have a slab leak, but it does mean that there is a possibility you might have a problem with moisture in your house and in turn water damage and corrosion.
